African American Gospel music
I am excited about sharing the art of Gospel music and its history. My art form was a way of living for me as a young African-American girl in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of two choir members at a large church that was experiencing the introduction of gospel music to its congregation. I have been in musical leadership positions with youth beginning at a young age, and it led me to a tenure as vocal music teacher for the famous Boystown Father Flanagan High School in Omaha, Nebraska. With two other female mentors, I eventually formed the Youth Division Choir of the Gospel Music Workshop of America Nebraska Chapter.
Available: I have a pretty flexible schedule, but I will need to schedule at least a month in advance. No Sunday mornings. Mileage restrictions can be negotiated.
Space: Need enough space for a piano and microphone set up. In the event of a concert, space will be needed for a drum set, bass player and amplifier, and two keyboards. Depending upon the request, we may require risers for a choir.
Fee: Gospel music workshops: Five days = $1,000 (three days = $750); Concerts: $1,500 (more if using a full band of musicians); Special guest soloist: Negotiable; Arts residency: $ 1,500 (week-long)
