Det Norske Folkedanslaget
Norwegian, Scandinavian dance
Det Norske Folkedanslaget (The Norwegian Folk Dance Group) was founded in the early 1950s by a group of Norwegian immigrants. Its members strive to continue the traditions of folk dancing from Norway and other Scandinavian countries as authentically as possible. Dancers are dressed in folk costumes from many different regions in Norway. They present a variety of dances, including 1,000-year-old song dances, unique regional couple dances, group dances and dances that were choreographed by Norwegian-American immigrants. The dancers are accompanied by musicians on fiddles, including the traditional Hardanger fiddle, and accordion. Audience participation may be a part of our program, if requested. We perform in communities to help preserve the heritage of our ancestors and to promote goodwill among all cultures. The group is open to new members; call for meeting places and times.
Available: The group may be available any day or time, including weekdays with sufficient notice (three months). Mileage and special arrangements are required for performances outside the Twin Cities metro area.
Space: At least 20 by 20 ft., depending upon the size of the group; wooden floor preferred; microphones and amplification equipment for voice, two fiddles, and one accordion
Fee: $200 minimum + mileage
