   HjerteDans
Norwegian music and dance

HjerteDans is Mikkel Thompson and Ruth Sylte. These two friends have been dancing and performing together since 1995, representing more than 30 years of combined experience in performing traditional Norwegian dance and music. Mikkel and Ruth are committed to the study, performance, teaching and creation of traditional Norwegian dance and music. They are able to present and teach all four major Norwegian dance traditions:
Langedans / songdans: story and song dances passed along from Viking times; Bygdedans: the 400 to 500 year-old living tradition of regional dances; Turdans: stately set/figure dances influenced by sixteenth to eighteenth century European dances; Runddans / gammeldans: Norwegian versions of the waltz, mazurka, polka, reinlender (schottische), etc.

HjerteDans enjoys planning performance programs that meet the needs of your organization, lodge, festival, or family gathering. HjerteDans performances can include teaching, either separately or as a part of the performance. They often take requests for dances from specific geographic regions in order to give audience members an opportunity to see "their" ancestral dance, making each performance a unique and exceptional experience.

Both members of HjerteDans are accomplished musicians. Mikkel plays torader (two-row button accordion) and trekkspel (modern accordion). Ruth sings in a traditional Norwegian folk style and plays piano, rhythm guitar, and harpeleik (Norwegian zither).
