Laura MacKenzie
Celtic, Irish, Scottish music
Laura MacKenzie performs the music of Ireland and Scotland on wooden concert flute, tin whistles, concertina, Scottish smallpipes, border bagpipes, and medieval greatpipes. She also sings in a traditional, unaccompanied style. She can present the music in a concert format, or can incorporate it into an informative demonstration. Laura has learned the arts of Celtic music from many recognized masters, and has herself been recognized as a master folk artist by the Minnesota State Arts Board. In 1998 she was awarded a McKnight Performing Arts Fellowship as a solo artist. Laura presents a varied, entertaining, and informative program on an array of rare and unusual instruments, of interest to all ages. Her performances are adaptable for festivals, concerts, and celebrations as well as for schools and lyceums. Laura is available as a solo performer or with ensemble.
