Nordic Angst
Traditional Nordic folk music with contemporary sound
The music of Nordic Angst has grown out of a combination of Scandinavian immigrants music, American folk impulses, and research into the roots in traditional Norwegian folk music's vast wealth of music. Out of this combination comes enriched music that is very enjoyable to our regional community at large, regardless of ethnic backgrounds. Nordic Angst uses an eclectic blend of traditional and nontraditional instruments including the nyckelharpa, ocatave mandolin, electric guitar, accordion, overtone flute, acoustic guitar, and bass. The repertoire includes ballads from the Middle Ages, hallings drinking songs, and more, with a contemporary sound that bridges time and cultures. Norwegian music specialist Arna Rennan spearheads this experienced group whose members have had careers in forms such as Bluegrass, traditional and contemporary American folk music, modern compositions, and rock
