North Country Fiddle and Dance
Tom and Jeanne O'Neil / North American dance music

Tom and Jeanne play a variety of American traditional styles. Their style includes a mix of Irish, Scottish, and French-Canadian fiddle music in North America. Tom and Jeanne have been playing traditional music together since 1978, and are now accompanied by their daughter, Erin, who plays fiddle and dances. Their repertoire includes reels, jigs, waltzes, hornpipes, and demonstrations of Appalachian clogging, a percussive dance done to southern fiddle tunes. Tom and Jeanne also perform the French-Canadian gigue, a form of jigging which uses complex steps that has origins in France, Ireland, and England. In addition to their performances, the O'Neils can also provide music and instruction for dance workshops and recreational dance sessions. In their performances and workshops, Tom and Jeanne continue to emphasize the vital and historical connection between fiddle music and the dances that have accompanied it through the years. When possible, they invite audience members to participate in simple dances, and enjoy demonstrating the various styles of step-dance which accent the music they play.
