Tibetan American Foundation of Minnesota Tibetan performers
Tibetan performance art includes many types of songs that are passed from generation to generation. In traditional Tibetan social life, both work and play are occasions for singing. Even today it is not uncommon to see building crews pounding on the roofs and singing in unison or a group of weavers singing at their looms. The music and dance performances are a crucial part of the holidays and religious ceremonies of Tibet. Everyone looks forward to the pageantry, colorful costumes, and skill of the performers. Some dances are stately and elegant, some teach religious principles, some recount Tibetan history, and some are humorous.
Tibetans living in exile are deeply committed to preserving the richness of their endangered cultural heritage. A presenter who can give background about the history, style, and significance of the music and dances may accompany the group. The scope of the presentationónumber of dancers, length of performanceócan be adapted to the needs of the audience.
